In between displacement

Ben Hosking’s China

Take an eerie trip through East Asia with photographer Ben Hosking. His travels have resulted in a number of photo essays and editorial projects. This time, he takes us to China.

In Between Displacement is an ongoing photo documentary project that explores the social implications of change in the Chinese national psyche.

It is photography meets social research through conversations with local communities and individuals from eastern to southwestern China, trailing the Yangtze River.

The collaboration between photography and social science presents these ideas in a contemporary format, accessible and relevant to a global community.

With an editorial approach, this small-scale publication provides a narrative for the viewer to grasp an overall snapshot of China. From complex sprawling urban landscapes to portraiture, the work explores the ideas of transience, spatial motion and scale.
