A never Edna-ing story.
When you think of a tree change, you may think of the move from city to countryside, away from the hustle and bustle of the inner city. For Kath and Jon, their tree change was as simple as moving to the house across the street. The only trees that changed were the ones outside their window.
The affinity with Lilyfield’s Edna Street is what could be coined a never-ending story for this pair. Their recent purchase of 5 Edna Street adds a new chapter to the collection of houses that they’ve sequentially owned on the street. Previous owners of 13 Edna Street, to now currently living in 4 Edna Street (and selling, to make their new purchase a reality), their initial encounter with Edna Street was by chance. “We hadn’t really considered Lilyfield until an agent nudged us to view a property here,” they chuckle. “Locals affectionately dub this area Lilydale—part Lilyfield, part Annandale—and it felt like home from the moment we set foot in the door,” they say.
Despite eventually listing their first home for sale, Kath and Jon couldn’t shake the pull of Edna Street. “We scoured various suburbs for nearly a year, but we felt like nothing quite compared to what we had here,” they reflect.
Nestled amongst the Inner West landscape, the street offers a vista over green spaces and the city skyline. You could almost say it’s perfectly positioned – far enough from the bustle of main roads to be tranquil, yet close to public transport and the village hubs. All the creature comforts that you want from a home, and a community. Since moving there in 2003, the location has consistently met their growing family’s needs. This includes their current home – an example of classic freestanding Federation architecture that’s been updated for modern living, including four bedrooms, polished floorboards, high ceilings, solar panels and level lawns.
While Kath and Jon are celebrating over 20 years of residency on Edna, they know they’re not alone. We’re told that once people settle on Edna Street, they find little reason to wander. And the homes? They don’t come up all that often. “We’re so excited to be staying on this street. Unless we leave Sydney altogether someday, you’ll find us here, on Edna Street.”
