Designer penthouse for a family
When a designer and developer couple fits out their own penthouse, we expect something special. That’s what we found at 28/755-759 Botany Road, Rosebery
Now on the market with Amber Riethmuller and Brigitte Blackman, the rooftop penthouse stands out for interior design touches and a grand entertainers’ layout. As the original owners have shown, it’s one penthouse that serves as both statement residence and family home with its two levels, indoor/outdoor space, and separate living areas.
We checked in with owner/designer Dani T to learn more.
Start at the beginning.
“It was a heritage-listed site so we loved the fact we had to keep the facade. It had so much history, for instance the name “Parker Residence” came from the fact Parker Furniture had a store onsite back in the 60s. We had our eyes on Rosebery, knowing it was an upcoming suburb.”
What was your vision as both home builder / developer?
“As a designer (and the rule is no different for my own project), I always start with a concept and this one was about intertwining. Everything was carefully thought-out and selected and the floor plan was the most important aspect. It needed to work for family needs.
We went for an abundance of storage, quality materials, and unique features throughout. I also like to select durable finishes (they will last).
It’s a place that flows and works so well for us and our boys, so we’re hoping the next owners will love and appreciate it as much as we did.”
A family penthouse and entertainer… have you proved it’s possible?
“Even though we have two young boys, we have created a family space that is luxurious, sophisticated but feels warm and alive. My youngest boy even calls our living/dining room his “playroom” and I can’t stop my older boy kicking balls throughout the space or loosing them on the rooftop. Every now and again, a friendly neighbour will hand over a lost ball they find in their balcony.
It’s an entertainer and we love to gather with friends and family. And with two living spaces, it is very dynamic. We gather around the oversized kitchen bench to cook family meals while the boys play in the living room. Then we often head upstairs to watch a movie, grab a night cap, or use the jacuzzi.”
Did you learn anything unexpected?
“We can’t get past the suburb transformation which has been incredible. Rosebery is much more exciting and vibrant than when we first moved in. We love to be surrounded by amazing designer headquarters, shops and showrooms. We love the community too with plenty of shops, facilities, and public transport.”
What do you most want people to notice?
“The master wing – it feels like a hotel suite every time we enter it.”
